A higher standard of driver training
If as a parent you really care about the quality of driver training your teen receives, as opposed to just using any old school you find in order to meet the state requirement, you’re in the right place.
Altitude was founded with the philosophy that using the most qualified instructors leads to better training, and safer teen drivers. Because of the confidence we have in our instructors, Altitude is one of very few driving schools that is actually willing to teach people to drive from scratch. The majority of driving schools require a student to have anywhere between 5 and 20 hours of driving logged with a parent, before they will even let them take a lesson. So by their way of thinking, the parents are more qualified to teach teens to drive than their own instructors.
Altitude was founded by police officers, who are also certified law enforcement driving instructors. As such, we have received countless hours of training over many years, and have extensive firsthand experience of everything it takes for drivers to stay safe, and avoid situations that can result in tickets, crashes, and worse.

Why we started Altitude
As police officers, we see firsthand every day the results of bad driving. Everything from something as minor as a bad parking job, all the way up to fatal car crashes. And the frustrating thing is, most of these situations could be avoided with more, and better training.
I have issued tickets for speeding, and I have watched teenage drivers die. My own son lost his girlfriend when she was 16 years old because she was driving too fast for the roadway, and beyond the limit of her skills as a new driver. All these experiences enable us to teach from a very different perspective than the average driving instructor.
These are just some of the reasons we started Altitude. We wanted see what we could do to raise the bar, and make quality training affordable and accessible.

If you’re a non-profit, why isn’t everything free?
Some people have the misconception that as a non-profit, we shouldn’t be charging for our services. As nice as it would be to be able to do all this for free, unfortunately, that’s not realistic.
Now from time to time, as funds allow, we can and do offer scholarships for those who aren’t in a financial position to be able to afford driver training. The more generous donations we receive, the more we can do that. So if you know anyone wanting to make a tax deductible charitable contribution to a good cause, send them our way!
But the reality is, even though we’re a non-profit, we have the same expenses as any “for-profit” driving school. The ridiculously high insurance premiums, vehicle costs, payroll, and rent, don’t go away just because we’re a non-profit.
